Short biography
Richard Russell Riordan Jr. (born June 5, 1964) is an American author. He is known for writing the Percy Jackson & the Olympians series, about a twelve-year-old Percy Jackson who discovers he is a son of the Greek god Poseidon. Riordan's books have been translated into forty-two languages and sold more than thirty million copies in the US. 20th Century Fox has adapted the first two books of his Percy Jackson series as part of a series of films. His books have spawned related media, such as graphic novels and short story collections.

Riordan's first full-length novel was Big Red Tequila, which became the first book in the Tres Navarre series. His big breakthrough was The Lightning Thief (2005), the first novel in the five-volume Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, which placed a group of adolescents in a Greco-Roman mythological setting. Since then, Riordan has written The Kane Chronicles trilogy and The Heroes of Olympus series. The Kane Chronicles (2010-2012) focused on Egyptian mythology; The Heroes of Olympus was the sequel to the Percy Jackson series. Riordan also helped Scholastic Press develop The 39 Clues series and its spinoffs, and penned its first book, The Maze of Bones (2008). His most recent publications are three books in the Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard series, based on Norse mythology. The first book of his The Trials of Apollo series, The Hidden Oracle, was released in May 2016.

Truly the reason I think this story works so well in the place that it is in the series is because of the number of characters that are introduced. Even though they are not the main characters or focus, they play crucial roles later in the series, as well as in the world of Percy Jackson as a whole.

Even though the story doesn't follow Annabeth (i.e. my favorite character), I still love this story, and large amounts of character development across multiple characters, as well as the repetition of the important character flaws that exist in the MCs that allude to future plot points in the next couple of books.… (more)

{My thoughts} – Percy is a 12 year-old boy that is about to learn that the world he has lived in his entire life, isn’t really as it seems. He has attended school after school and been kicked out of so many for bad behavior. He has been told that his behavior is because of ADHD and Dyslexia, However, that is only a small percentage of the real issues at hand.

Percy is about to learn the hard way that the mythological monsters and the gods he has learned about in his textbooks are real. He is about to learn that they are after him, and that it is their goal for some to help him, and for others to try and destroy him! What is really going on? It’s hard to say cause things are a bit chaotic at first while he tries to find ways to navigate what is quickly becoming his new reality.

Percy has a friend named Grover at school, the only friend he seems to have made. The problem is that Grover is weak and Percy is always left standing up for him and defending him. Percy has a lot to learn about Grover, however, they have a nice bond. At the end of the school term they both get on a bus together and Grover offers to walk home with Percy. That isn’t how the events unfold though – they unfold much differently and eventually they end up meeting up again, just not in the way they would have imagined.

Percy and his mom go on a weekend trip. It is on this trip that his entire world explodes. It is on this trip that he realizes things will never be the same again. It is on this trip that he sees he isn’t just an average human boy. His mom ends up disappearing from thin air after they he, his mom and Grover are attacked. It’s from there that Grover and Percy head to Camp Half-Blood. Once they get there everything changes again. Percy learns what he really is and it isn’t an ordinary human. He also learns which god is his father.

It eventually becomes Percy’s quest to find out who stole Zues’ Lightning Bolt. Percy. Annabeth another camper and Grover go on a quest to solve this mystery. This quest is an adventure of a lifetime and they are tested and tried and forced to overcome so many different obstacles.

I really am glad that a close friend recommended this book to me. It was a fun read and I am looking forward to reading more books in the series in the near future. Percy is a fun character and so are his two friends Grover and Annabeth. I look forward to learning more about them and their stories. I really enjoyed the tie in to the Greek Mythology. I have always had an interest in it, I just don’t always enjoy reading about it. This book made reading about it interesting and entertaining. This is definitely a book that I am going to add to my highly recommended list of books to read.

{My Thoughts} – Have you seen the National Treasure movies with Nicolas Cage in them? If you have, this series appears to have the same basis. These two children Amy and Dan along with many other members of the Cahill Clan are in search of clues. Each of the clues, lead them to a part of another clue, an actual clue or just a wild goose chase. They are each trying to find the long lost missing Cahill treasure from what I have gathered.

Grace Cahill their grandmother seemed have figured out what these clues were, what they meant and how valuable they were to the family. So instead of giving our just an inheritance in her will upon her death she gave certain members of the family the opportunity to search for the clues. Amy and Dan decide that they will search for the clues, but they don’t realize just how dangerous this search is going to be for them as they are two young children that hardly understand what is going on around them. They know that they are going up against other family members and those other family members will stop at nothing to try and get just what it is that they want. They want the cues to themselves, they want the treasure to themselves. It is up to Amy and Dan to get to the treasure before the rest of the family.

The downfall to this whole treasure hunt is that the clues that Amy and Dan find are just a part of the puzzle. There are other similar clues that if other members of the family are able to find them, they too can figure out what to do next. In other words, many clues happen to lead to similar places or the same place which can make it difficult for other family members to stay ahead of each other.

Amy and Dan and their babysitter decide to do this quest together. If you like reading about adventure, near death encounters, backstabbing family members, and mystery stories you should enjoy this series. They is a lot of puzzle and problem solving that takes place within the books, you can try to solve it yourself as you read or wait and allow the characters to unravel the mystery for you. The choice is yours, but I am sure you will enjoy learning and reading about Amy and Dan’s adventures to finding their family treasure. An added bonus is that it has a lot of historical fact within the pages and if you enjoy history and or learning about it, it is an added perk to reading this series.

I find myself saddened by the fact that there's only one more book left in this series. It's such an enjoyable read, and I'll miss Percy and Annabeth and Chiron when I have to say goodbye.
